The “Blue Moon” is a sinuous shape, similar to the imprints left by the waves on the beach of Venice's Lido.

The project stands at the intersection between the Gran Viale Santa Maria Elisabetta (a road that crosses the Lido orthogonally from the point where passengers from Venice disembark) and the coast road that goes from the Murazzi to the sand dunes of San Nicolò. The section of beach in question was formerly occupied by the municipal building of the Public Baths that was destroyed during the last world war and, after the war, by a bathing station called the "Blue Moon" that was demolished at the end of the eighties.

The town council's programme foresaw a place for socializing that would combine an offer of services (shops, coffee bars and restaurants) with the development of spaces devoted to culture (cinema and open-air theatre).

The implemented project is basically composed of three parts joined by a garden that surrounds the complex on the street side and by a connecting structure made of paths, catwalks and stepped terraces for reaching the beach from any level.

Arriving from the avenue the first space encountered is a circular domed pavilion that acts as a sort of central square at different levels. The metallic reticular structure of the dome is composed of stiffening elements on an asymmetric frame; a partial covering of the square was to be made from sliding grills but this has not yet been completed. A helicoidal staircase, that connects the two levels of the square, winds around a central spar which with its height emerges and acts as a kind of signal of the presence of the sea for those who arrive from Venice.

-       The main building is situated between the pavilion-square and the beach. It is functionally divided into two parts: a restaurant area and shops. The rooms receive light both laterally through a long arcaded window, on the beach side, and from above through four domes that are the main characteristics of the entire complex with references to Venice's historical skyline.

-       A metal and wood hinged walkway starts from the covering terraces: it was originally planned that it would become a long jetty heading into the sea; now, although it comes to an end at the water's edge, it still provides an aerial panoramic walk for enjoying the landscape of the lagoon.

-       Terraces have been constructed on the beach. These also act as breakwaters. There are also wooden benches for enjoying open-air shows, concerts and film projections.

Il Blue Moon ha una forma sinuosa, simile alle impronte lasciate dalle onde sulla spiaggia del Lido di Venezia.

Il progetto sorge all'incrocio tra il Gran Viale Santa Maria Elisabetta (un asse viario che attraversa il Lido ortogonalmente dal punto di sbarco dei passeggeri provenienti da Venezia) e il lungomare che va dai Murazzi alle dune sabbiose di San Nicolò. Il tratto di spiaggia in questione era prima occupato dallo stabilimento comunale dei Bagni Pubblici, andato distrutto durante l'ultimo conflitto mondiale, e nel dopoguerra da uno stabilimento chiamato "Blue Moon", demolito alla fine degli anni Ottanta.

Il programma della Giunta Comunale prevedeva la realizzazione di un luogo di socializzazione in grado di coniugare l'offerta di servizi (negozi, bar, ristorante) con il potenziamento di spazi dedicati alla cultura (cinema e teatro all'aperto).

Il progetto realizzato è composto da tre parti raccordate da un giardino che avvolge il manufatto dalla parte della strada e da un tessuto connettivo fatto di percorsi, passerelle e terrazze gradonate che consentono di raggiungere la spiaggia da qualsiasi livello.

-       Il primo spazio che si incontra arrivando dal Gran Viale è un padiglione circolare a cupola che svolge la funzione di vera e propria piazza su livelli differenti. La struttura reticolare metallica della cupola è composta da elementi d'irrigidimento a orditura asimmetrica; a parziale copertura della piazza sono previsti carabottini scorrevoli non ancora realizzati. Una scala a elica, che connette i due livelli della piazza, si snoda attorno a un pennone centrale che emerge a grande altezza per segnale la presenza del mare per chi arriva da Venezia.

-       Tra il padiglione-piazza e la spiaggia è collocato l'edificio principale, diviso funzionalmente in due parti: la zona ristoro e i negozi. Gli ambienti sono illuminati sia lateralmente da una lunga vetrata porticata che si apre verso l'arenile, sia dall'alto attraverso quattro cupole che evocano lo skyline storico di Venezia.

-       Un lungo pontile in metallo e legno, con zone di sosta, che parte dalle terrazze di copertura e si inoltra nell'acqua per 150 metri, offre una passeggiata a mare che consente di godere del particolare paesaggio lagunare. Ad oggi ne è stata realizzata una parte, fino al bagnasciuga.

-       La spiaggia è stata attrezzata con gradonate che funzionano anche da frangiflutti e con palchi in legno per lo svolgimento di spettacoli, concerti e proiezioni all’aperto.
